How The Fire Safety Council handles personal information when you use our website, property records and registration services.
Last updated: 23 August 2026
This privacy notice explains how The Fire Safety Council (“FSC”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects and uses personal information when you use this website, contact us, create an account, request access to a property record, register as a provider or otherwise interact with FSC.
FSC operates an independent register for fire safety certification, property records and registered providers. This means some information we process relates to properties and fire safety records, while other information identifies or relates to individuals.
Depending on how you use FSC, we may collect information including:
We may use personal information to:
UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for processing personal information. Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on one or more of the following:
FSC is designed to provide searchable fire safety information associated with properties. Certain property and certification information may therefore be available through the public register. Detailed property timelines, event records and filed documents may require an approved account.
We aim to avoid publishing personal information unnecessarily. Access to non-public property information is subject to the access controls and verification processes operated by FSC.
If you request access to a property, we may ask you to provide evidence showing your connection to the property or your authority to act on behalf of its owner. This may include proof of address or proof of instruction.
These documents are used for verification and administration of property access. You should provide only the information reasonably necessary for us to verify your request and should redact unrelated information where appropriate.
We do not sell personal information. We may share information where necessary with organisations that help us operate FSC, such as website hosting, email, IT, security and professional service providers.
We may also disclose information where required by law, in response to a lawful request from an authority, to protect legal rights, or where disclosure is otherwise permitted under applicable data protection law.
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including account administration, maintaining appropriate property and certification records, resolving disputes, security, and meeting legal or regulatory requirements.
Retention periods may differ according to the type of information and the reason it is held. Fire safety and property records may need to form part of a continuing audit history even where an individual user account is later closed.
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration or disclosure. Access to non-public property information is restricted according to account status and permissions.
No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Users are responsible for keeping their account credentials confidential and should contact us if they believe their account has been compromised.
Some technology or service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we take reasonable steps to ensure an appropriate transfer mechanism is in place.
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights including the right to request access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to certain processing and data portability.
Some rights are subject to legal conditions and exemptions. In particular, a request to erase personal information does not necessarily require deletion of an underlying property, certification or audit record where FSC has a lawful reason to retain that record.
FSC may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for website functions such as sessions, account login and security. If we introduce non-essential analytics, advertising or other technologies requiring consent, we will provide the appropriate information and consent controls.
FSC services are not directed at children. If we become aware that personal information has been provided by a child in circumstances where it should not have been collected, we will take appropriate steps to address it.
We may update this privacy notice when our services or legal obligations change. The latest version will be published on this page with an updated revision date.
